The Ultimate Sacrifice for Science

Touch wood, but despite the danger inherent in fieldwork (especially magnified where most primates live and hominid fossils lie), my friends have all come back from the field safe and mostly sound. That of course is sadly not the case for all who travel to the ends of the earth in pursuit of scientific knowledge. We’ve all heard second- and third-hand accounts of when things do go wrong, but Richard Conniff of the blog Strange Behaviors is endeavoring to compile a memorial list of those who have died in service of science: the Naturalists’ Wall of the Dead. May they rest in peace, and may you all be safe in your fieldwork!
